About

Who we are:

We are the Hawaii Chapter of the Social Media Club, an international, educational nonprofit organization (501c6) based in San Francisco that was initially formed in 2006 by Chris Heuer and Kristie Wells. It currently has over 120 chapters worldwide and is growing rapidly. Normally chapters are city-based, however we manage a statewide chapter for all of us throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

We welcome the participation of all who wish to be part of the social media revolution and wish to participate in the National Charter’s Mission and Goals.

The members of Social Media Club commit to developing and supporting best practices of transparency, authenticity, and ethics in the use of social media and social networking. Our members are leaders in the field and are helping to define these business practices.

Our meetings:
Our meetings are open to the public. Bring your business cards and your colleagues! We do hope you will choose to join our group.

Our beginnings:
The Hawaii chapter was started by Roxanne Darling of Bare Feet Studios in October, 2008, in conjunction with Podcamp Hawaii 2008. SMC founders Chris Heuer and Kristie Wells came to Honolulu and together with Roxanne and Beth Kanter, presented a full day Social Media Workshop. The official public launch event was in March, 2009 with over 50 people present at ING Direct Cafe (currently Capital One 360)!
